Starpaw stopped dead when she heard the wail of grief coming from the Medicine Cat Den.
She hesitated, not sure if she could go back.
If I want to be a medicine cat, I have to face my fears... she reminded herself.
Reluctantly, she padded back into the small cleft of a den. A small group of cats were crowded together, some crying, some sniffing. Starpaw tilted her head and padded forward and let out a gasp.
In the center of the group was Rippykit, her body limp. "Rippykit..." She mumbled, ears pinned back. Tears came into her sky-blue eyes as she gazed at the still small kit. "She was too young to die...I tried my best..."

*trembles* she wanted me...but i wasnt here...she died an its my fault...i shouldve been here but i wasnt, oh im a terrible mother!!!!

Tangletail came in, then saw then dead kit. She closed her eyes, her head bowed as she reached her.
"Starpaw-" She turned to the sad apprentice. "You did everything you could." She smiled softly.
"If you want to be Medicine Cat, you have the right to do it. You did better than a normal cat would in your position."

"I-I'm so sor-sorry, Salixastream...this is my fault...I probably should've given her more Feverfew intead of Coltsfoot, or something..." Starpaw stuttered, still not grasping the fact that her friend was now dead.

"Starpaw." Tangletail meowed, her voice hard and stern. She saw Starpaw turn to her, suprise in her gaze from her steadiness and boldness.

it wasnt ure fault Starpaw, u did all u could, but if i couldve been here it might have helped. she asked for me but i wasnt there...its my fault...

Starpaw looked up at Tangletail. "But what about Icepaw?" She asked, a tingle of excitement coming off of her.

Starpaw turned her attention from Tangletail back to Silver and Salixastream.
Frowning slightly and murmured, "Is there a herb to heal a broken heart?" She asked, though she already knew the answer.

Tangletail lowered her head, then shook it, side to side.
"I'm afriad not. If there was, then life wouldn't be worth living. If not having any emotions in life cause you to have a better once, then that better one is dull and empty." She meowed, still shaking her head.

i stare blankly at the the scrap of fur i nudged her shoulder "please please please Starclan can have my wings i just want Rippykit back!" I thought sadly
