Stormheart turned around, and growled. The flames were very close now, four to eight tail-lengths away at the most.

Goldenpaw whirled. During all the arguing and fighting, the cats had failed to notice how close the fire was coming to them. It surrounded them all now, and it was beginning to get hard to see. Goldenpaw squinted, and shouted above the crackling flames, "We've got to find a way out! Try and see one!" She began searching around the edges of the flame, looking for a way through.

Stormheart, who was coughing from the smoke, could barely see her paws, let alone an exit. "I think we're closed in."

Goldenpaw swore. "Well what can we do now?" If there was no exit, then they would either die, or have to try something else. "What about the trees? Is there any way we can climb one and get out of here?"

*spottedpaw tumbles out of the smoke, theres a bump on her head, she ran into somthen when she tried to sprint our of the apprentices den when the fire started. she woke up from the smoke making her cough. bumps into sweetsnow, who steadies the apprentice and tells her to stay by here. spotty jr nods and sits down, blinking* *hears the other two* maybe i can find a way, im small

"I'll try a tree," Stormheart said, and climbed up the nearest charred tree. About halfway up, it collapsed into a pile of rubble, and she fell to the ground, her fur black with ash.

maybe i can find a way * she say's, louder this time* im small so i can crawl lower and under most of the smoke, i'll be able to see better

Goldenpaw cursed again. "Okay...Spottedpaw, see if you can find anything." As she watched the apprentice go off, she studied the wall of fire approaching them. If nothing else worked, she had one last plan in mind.

Stormheart stood up. "Maybe through that tree," she said. "Maybe we can get out that way, before we're destroyed by the fire."
