Poppy lay in the night sky. It was truly beautiful... The stars were like shining diamonds strewn across a soft, black velvet blanket. Though Poppy appreciated this beauty, she could not help feeling sad. Ever since her death her thoughts kept drifting back to Cipher no matter how hard she tried to forget.... Cipher, her sister.... Cipher, the one who killed her in cold blooded murder because of her beliefs... Most of the other cats in StarClan had expected Poppy to never forgive her sister, to even hate her. But Poppy couldn't bring herself to feel that toward her sister. For was it really Cipher's fault that she killed Poppy and her sister? She had accused Poppy of living a life based off lies, that it would be better if she died because then she would realize the truth.... How wrong Cipher had been.... Poppy felt sorry for her sister. Because of the way she thought of, the lies were a web, a web an evil spider made to catch it's innocent prey.... And Cipher had been the innocent fly that had been ensnared in the web of lies...
What bugged Poppy the most was that Cipher may never know that what she did was wrong.... So wrong.... She may grow old and die believing that she was the right one, that she did something good and saintlike. Would Cipher ever even feel the tiniest bit of remorse for what she did? Would she ever look back at her past and say, '' I shouldn't have killed them? ''... So many questions were buzzing around Poppy's mind. '' Cipher why can't you just learn? Just, realize that what you did was wrong... '' she mewed sadly as she looked down into the DeathClan camp. Poppy had been watching over her sister and watched her join the evil clan. What surprised her even more was that Thorn had joined too. She had always thought Thorn was a good cat, a good brother. Yeah, he had always been.... aggresive.... but she thought it was just because he was a tom... Now she knew he was evil, he had a cold heart. But she also knew that there was some good in it.... Somewhere he had brotherly feelings for her... Wasn't that like love? Poppy's thoughts drifted back to Cipher as usual...
No matter how sorry Poppy felt for Cipher, she was also very proud of her. For she had given birth to five healthy kits! And one kit look almost exactly like her. She was an aunt! Those five bundles of life were her kin, her nieces and nephews! But they would be raised in DeathClan... They would be raised to be cruel and heartless. They would be raised to be murders. What if it got out in SoulClan that these kits, these kits that grow up evil, could end up killing one of them, were Poppy's kin? What if one of her friends in SoulClan got seriously injured, or even killed by one of these kits? What would Goldenshard think? Poppy shook her head sadly. What if the kit that looked so much like herself, grew up and killed her? What if the last thing Goldenshard saw was a cat of her friend's kin kill her? Would that ruin her memory of Poppy? Would that make her think that she would kill like Cipher and her kits? Poppy sighed. Being dead sucked.... Poppy thought back to a happier day to get rid of the nasty thoughts. To when Goldenshard had gotten her warrior name. Poppy had been watching from right above the SoulClan camp, cheering Goldenshard's new name with the rest of SoulClan. She was so proud of her ginger friend! Poppy always knew that Goldenshard wanted to be a warrior, and knew that she would be a great one. She was so brave, when Poppy had gotten captured by DeathClan there was almost no hope. Then Goldenshard, back then Goldenpaw came and pretty much saved the day. If it wasn't for her, she could've still be sitting in DeathClan rotting away, or worse, forced to fight for them... Poppy shuddered at the idea of having to fight her friends in SoulClan. But Cipher was going to do it gladly.... Poppy's thoughts had drifted right back to DeathClan, right back to Cipher... Cipher and her kits would be going into battle to defend their clan. Did they even really know how evil DeathClan was, make this is?
Poppy sighed again, she knew there was some good in Cipher. Somewhere deep down. She loved her kits right? She had actually killed Poppy because she thought it was better for her to die. That made her a good cat?? A good, but misguided cat? '' Or you're just not willing to admit that your sister is evil! Just like her kits! You hate the fact that your kin is evil and nothing like you, you're afraid to admit it! '' said a nagging voice in the back of Poppy's mind. Poppy closed her eyes and shook her head, she could not deny the truth in the voice's words. Was she really just afraid to admit it? Was it really a fact that Cipher and Thorn were evil? And that those poor kits would grow up evil as well? Poppy could not sit still any more. She had to move, just move anywhere. Poppy stood up and started walking, not conscience of where her paws were taking her. Poppy walked on and on through the night skies, thinking about Cipher, and Thorn, and those kits. Those kits that would grow up learning the wrong way... Soon Poppy walked for what felt like eternity. The only thing keeping her company was the sound of her own paw steps. There was no gentle breeze stirring the night air and the leaves below, there was no squirrel scavenging in the undergrowth for a bit of food, no bird song. Not even the gentle hum of a buzzing bee collecting pollen on it's little feet... Poppy walked on, thoughts buzzing around her mind like a swarm of angry wasps. Listening to the steady rhythm of her own foot falls. Soon she couldn't take it anymore. Walking and walking. Thinking and thinking. Listening to her paw steps, thump, thump, thump.
All of a sudden Poppy felt her legs turn into jelly. She plopped down on the ground, not willing to take another paw step. She just stared up into space, up at the moon... Her thoughts drifted back to her death. She had died defending her beliefs. But why did she could have done more? She could have tried to convince Cipher harder. Maybe she could have changed Cipher's mind. What if she could still be alive, if she had tried harder. Now her death looked shameful, as if she didn't even put up an effort to live. She just layed down in front of Cipher and let her kill her. Poppy couldn't take anything anymore. She wanted to be alive again. She wanted to have done something more. Poppy put her face into her paws and sobbed quietly into them. It felt good to cry, to let it all out. She had been holding it in for so long. Holding in the fact that her world was crashing down around her. Not Spring or even Juniper knew how she felt. Knew what her world was like... They didn't know that her world was like a shattered piece of glass, and she couldn't pick out the pieces without cutting herself and beginning to bleed.... Poppy continued to sob quietly into her paws. Soon her sobs became louder and louder. What did it matter if anyone heard? Soon the starry fur on Poppy's front paws were very wet with her tears.
She knew Cipher would probably die the same way. A cruel and painful death that she did not deserve. She had talked to the SoulClan ancestors here in StarClan, they said that Cipher was going to the Dark Forest when she died... And no matter how much Poppy had plead and said that she was just confused, they wouldn't listen. It was so unfair! Poppy lifted her head and let out a piercing wail of despair. Why did life have to be so confusing and unfair? Poppy had always imagined a long and happy life. She would find a mate and fall in love... She would have lovely kits and watch them proudly as they fulfilled their dreams. Then grow old and greet death like an old friend... She had even thought about joining SoulClan... But no, her story had had a twist in it. And evil twist in it that the devil had added himself... Poppy sat there and cried and cried, she didn't think she could stop crying. She sat there for what felt like an eternity, then a voice from in front of her mewed gently, '' Please don;t cry little one. '' Poppy looked up, to numb t o feel shock. Standing in front of her was a blue-gray she~cat with piercing blue eyes. Poppy couldn't find her voice, it seemed to be stuck in her throat. So they just sat there staring into each other's eyes. Piercing blue and tear stained amber locked onto each other. Then Finlay Poppy spoke, '' W- who are y- you? '' she stammered, not taking her eyes away from the stranger. The stranger blinked slowly, '' I am Bluestar, former leader of ThunderClan. ''
Poppy just stared, ThunderClan? '' Bluest- star? I I don't want to sound rude.... But why are you here Bluestar? '' she asked still not taking her eyes off Bluestar. Bluestar smiled a bit, her smile was so warm and kin. No matter how unsure Poppy was about Bluestar, she couldn't help trusting her. '' Poppy I'm here to give you a better life, I'm here to help you. '' you mewed, her eyes full of warmth just like her smile. Poppy just continued to stare, she didn't think she could do anything else. '' B- better life? Bl- Bluestar, I'm dead! '' she mewed louder than she intended. Poppy looked back down at her paws, she did not want to show Bluestar her fresh wave of tears. Then to Poppy's surprise, Bluestar chuckled! Poppy looked up again. Bluestar's eyes were shining with amusement, as if she was waiting for Poppy to bring up the fact that she was dead. '' I know you are dead little one, but I am here to help. Now stand up please Poppy. '' she mewed then gently nudged Poppy to her paws. '' I have been watching over you a long time Poppy. I know how you feel, all the sadness in you. And I have talked to SoulClan's ancestors, they think it is fair that you get a second chance my friend. '' she mewed, the stars in her fur seemed to glow brighter as she spoke. '' Second chance? I don't understand Bluestar, please explain? '' as Poppy asked the stars in Bluestar's pelt seemed to glow even brighter. '' I just did young one, you are getting a second chance, now follow me. '' she mewed, not even trying to hide the amusement in her voice then bounded in the direction that Poppy had came.
Poppy raced after Bluestar, what was she doing? '' Bluestar! Bluestar wait up! You are just gonna end up above DeathClan camp! '' she called but it made no difference, Bluestar just kept on running. '' Don not worry little one! '' Bluestar called not even looking back. Poppy groaned, maybe this cat was really just a crazy, old, dead cat? No, something about Bluestar made Poppy just know she wasn't. After running for what seemed like forever Bluestar came to a sudden stop. So sudden, that Poppy almost ran right into her. '' Bluestar, why are we in DeathClan? I was just here. '' Poppy mewed. Bluestar looked at Poppy, it almost looked like love in her eyes. '' I said you would get a second chance, you are getting it here. '' she mewed and started walking down into DeathClan. Poppy had always watched from above, she had never gone down into the actual camp.... Both of them were standing in the middle of the DeathClan camp. They were silent for a moment then Poppy spoke, '' Bluestar I still don't understand... '' she mewed uncertainly. '' Bluestar looked down at Poppy, the look on her face told Poppy that she was serious now. '' Poppy, your death was untimely and unfair. You could have gone much, much farther if you were given the chance, and now you are going to be given that chance. You are going to be reincarnated. Your soul will go into another cat, well kit, and you will get to relive your life. '' she mewed as if this normal and something you would do every other day. '' Reincarnated? '' Poppy repeated stupidly. Bluestar smiled a bit again, '' Yes, reincarnated into one of your sister's kits. '' she mewed and started walked toward to the nursery. Poppy stood rooted to the spot, she would get a new life... In DeathClan? '' Bluestar! I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I don't think I would like to have a second chance in DeathClan.. '' she mewed as she walked after Bluestar. They were in the nursery watching Cipher and the five kits sleep when Bluestar spoke, '' If you are sure of your heart as you seem to be, you will find a way. '' she mewed as she watched the kits sleeping. '' Ah, so many kits to chose from! Five is a big litter, I had three kits myself. '' Bluestar mewed as she leaned in close to examine all the kits. Poppy wasn't sure what Bluestar meant but hid her confusion by looking at the kits too.
'' Er Bluestar, what are we exactly looking for? '' Poppy asked Bluestar who was still looking at the kits intently. Bluestar looked at Poppy sideways and smiled. '' We are deciding which kit you will be! '' Bluestar mewed excitedly. Poppy hadn't thought that they were looking for that... '' Oh, well I would kind of like to look like myself if I could.... '' Poppy mewed uncertainly and looked at Sinkit, the one that looked exactly like her. Bluestar's smiled faded off her face. '' That's what I thought you would say. Lets just say it would be better if you weren't that kit... '' Bluestar trailed off and looked at the other she~kit, she was a cute tabby with blue, pretty much purple, eyes. '' I think you should be reincarnated as Toxickit. '' she mewed and straightened up. '' What's wrong with Sinkit? '' Poppy asked stubbornly. '' Believe me, it would be better if you went with Toxickit. '' she mewed showing the finality in her voice. Poppy stifled a sigh and agreed. Bluestar nodded then spoke, '' Poppy, you will lose your memory. It will be like you never had your first life, and you will lose memory even of this encounter. Do you understand? '' Poppy gulped, was she really willing to do this? Was she willing to give up her memory for a second chance at life. Poppy sighed, she was willing to do this. She was going to make a better life. She knew her heart would guide the way. She looked up into Bluestar's beautiful blue eyes. There was silence for a moment and Poppy thought about turning it down... No, she could not be afraid. '' Bluestar, I understand. '' she mewed, surprising herself by the calmness and confidence in her voice. Bluestar smiled at Poppy, the warmth of it seemed to wash away all of Poppy's fears and uncertainties. '' Good luck my young friend, may StarClan light your path. '' Bluestar mewed and touched noses with Poppy. '' Yours too Bluestar. '' Poppy muttered. It felt like Poppy was being sucked into a whirl pool, but there was no water. There was no wind. There wasn't anything but blackness. Poppy wasn't even sure if she was there. There was no air, Poppy couldn't' breath.
Soon Poppy could breath. But Poppy was not her name, was it? No it was Toxickit for sure.... She must have been dreaming about poppy flowers or something. Toxickit raised her head, the scent of her mother and her milk drifted toward her. So did her siblings' scent... Toxickit mewled, she wanted milk. Toxickit felt a warm muzzle gently nudged her toward her mother's belly. Who was in the nursery? Toxickit turned around. She saw the outline of a cat but then it vanished. Had she imagined it? No she was certain that it was there. There was someone in the camp! Toxickit began to yowl as loud as she could. Someone need to know there was an intruder in the camp!
Cipher raised her head slowly, sleep in her eyes. '' What is it little one? It's the middle of the night, you should be asleep. '' Cipher mewed to Toxickit. '' No mommy! There was someone in the camp! I saw them mommy! They were in here! They nudged me forward! '' Toxickit squeaked. Why didn't her own mother believe her? Cipher bent down and licked her kits head. '' It was only a dream little one. Now go back to sleep, there is no one in the camp I promise you. '' Cipher mewed the put her head back down on her paws and closed her eyes. '' Mommy it wasn't a dream I swear! I was awake! I saw them! '' she squealed, determined not to give up without a fight. Cipher raised her head, she was annoyed now. '' Honey, it was a dream. We would know if there was someone in the camp. Now go to sleep! '' she mewed showing the conversation was over. Toxickit shot her mother a glare then put her head down and closed her eyes. She knew it wasn't a dream, and that was all that mattered.
