Shattergaze led her apprentice out into the fern clearing, a large open space perfect for training. She turned to her apprentice and sat down, eyeing the cat. "Whitepaw, ever since the Stormheart incident, you loyalty to the Clan has been questioned. I myself have also questioned it." Her icy eyes shined. "But, I am willing to forget about that if from here on out you prove yourself a loyal DeathClan cat. So now, I will begin your warrior training."
She stood up and padded around Whitepaw, speaking. "When your mother, Tanglestar, was my mentor, one of the first things she taught me was this: pain is nothing." She eyed the apprentice. "Never forget that. It is one of the most important things you'll ever learn. In the heat of battle, when you've been injured, sliced open, are bleeding all over the ground, you have to ignore all that pain or you will never win, never get out alive." Shattergaze stopped pacing and sat in front of her apprentice. "Do you understand this?"

Whitepaw sat down on the leafy clearing, ignoring her cold stare. Shattergaze was right. Many cats questioned her loyalty to her Clan all because of Stormheart. Whitepaw was angry at herself and Stormheart for falling for the friendship that had almost drifted apart. She should have stayed loyal to her Clan and her Clan only. Stormheart didn't matter to her. Neither did any of the other SoulCats.
As Shattergaze paced around her, Whitepaw took in every word as if it was leaf-bare and the only amount of prey they'd found was a stringy mouse. "Pain is nothing." She repeated, trying not to be moved by the way Shattergaze was acting towards her. The only reason that Shattergaze had decided to train Whitepaw more, was because she was her apprentice. And it was her responsibility to pass on all the courage and evil from one cat to another. Mentor to apprentice. "I understand this all clearly, Shattergaze." Whitepaw mewed defiantly. Oh that was no lie that she understood, she knew perfectly well this was the only way to survive. No matter how hurt you are, no matter how many broken bones or ripped pieces of flesh, you must continue fighting and ignore the pain. It was just in your mind, taking over all the time.
Oh yes, Whitepaw would remember this always. One of her ears twitched. She knew Shattergaze would not go easy on her, so Whitepaw would have to go the extra mile. The apprentice would have to predict every move like she would make it herself. Sheathing her claws, (which had been unsheathed the whole session so far), she waited for Shattergaze to go on. What little respect Shattergaze had for her, would all depend on this training session.

As Whitepaw repeated the message back to her, Shattergaze nodded. She could see sincerity in Whitepaw's eyes, but for what, she couldn't be sure. But it was a start. Perhaps she is her mother's daughter after all...we can only hope. "Good. If you ever feel yourself failing in battle, remember that lesson. Without it, there is no way you will survive in the Clan."
Shattergaze stopped pacing, and moved back to sit in front of Whitepaw. "Two more things. The next: Always be loyal to your Clan, your leader and your deputy." There was a glint in Shattergaze's eye, and a slight grin crossed her face. "Hopefully I won't have to remind you of that again. Ever." Then she moved on. "And lastly. In battle, we show no mercy. No matter if we are fighting a kit or a warrior, give no ground and never let them walk away alive if you can. Sympathy for the weak will make you weak as well." Her eyes shone. "And the weak don't belong in DeathClan."
Shattergaze got to her feet. "If you've gotten all of that, then we can begin your battle training."

Whitepaw listened intently. Shattergaze was clearly making an effort to get this through her mind: No more SoulClan interfering with Whitepaw's emotions, and no mercy. No matter who it was. "I am not weak, I belong in DeathClan and I will never be in SoulClan." She growled fircely, more to herself rather then Shattergaze.
Whitepaw stood up, feeling a small pang in her stomach. It would all matter on her training and loyalty. And more then half of the Clan already believed she was more of a SoulCat rather then Death. She would prove them wrong. All of them.

Shattergaze watched as Whitepaw stood up and fell into a battle crouch. All right Whitepaw. Hopefully your battle skills are good, or else it will be next to impossible to gain your respect back. Shattergaze got to her feet and dropped into a crouch in front of her apprentice. "Even though this is training, I will show no mercy because you will receive none in future battles. I expect you to fight as if your life depends on it. Which, it basically does." Another flash of a grin crossed her face. "The best way to learn is to fight. So training starts now. Attack me from the angle you feel is best, and with the attack you think will work." Shattergaze watched the cat. She purposefully left one part of her body open to attack. What will Whitepaw see? She wondered.

Whitepaw unsheathed her claws. This was DeathClan and theyw ouldn't care if there was blood during training sessions or not. She would prove them all wrong. Whitepaw could clearly see the weak side Shatergaze was purposly revealing. But she still hesitated. Anything was possible.
She could always attack the weaker side, but easdily be deflected by the attack from a simple paw swipe. But if she went for the strong side, she would still get ebaten. There was only one possiblity. Neither side. Suddenly, she lunged for Shatetrgaze's face, slashing her claws oevr the side of her face. Right when she laned, she swiped at the weaker side, blood forming slowly.

Shattergaze let out her claws as Whitepaw did the same. It's good that Whitepaw is already beginning to see what no mercy means, and that even in training we fight as we would in battle. She watched as Whitepaw studied her, and then decided to attack neither side and go for her face. Interesting choice...but unfortunately, a frontal attack is so easy to see coming. As Whitepaw charged, Shattergaze pulled her face easily out of the way of the apprentice's claws. As she leapt back, Shattergaze felt claws on her side. Good...she is being a little creative. But she needs to step it up a notch. Using her backwards momentum, Shattergaze spun around and kicked Whitepaw in the face, the hard jab connecting and knocking Whitepaw backwards. Shattergaze completed her spin and once again faced her apprentice. "Althought it was good that you didn't go for the obvious attack of my weak side, a frontal attack will only work on the most pathetic cats. Try again."

Whitepaw was sure that her attack would work. Sometimes, cats wouldn't be able to defend thereselves for the frontal attacks. Clearly, Shattergaze had seen it coming.
The force of her kick had almost knocked the air out of Whitepaw, so it took her a few seconds to catch her breath and reply. "Okay, Shattergaze." She panted, getting to her paws. She would have to step it up. Predict Shattergaze's moevs and compare them to hers before attacking. This would take a lot.
She reposiotioned herself and studied it for a moment. Maybe if she attack from the back, or tried to confuse her, she could manage to claw at her belly hind paws, and back. Possibly the neck. This would work perfectly, but how would she get Shattergaze to turn away? This was the hard part.
After taking a few more heartbeats, it came to her. Whitepaw's ears twitched. Hopefully it'd work. A lot of cats had probably used the same attack, so it may not be new to her mentor. Following her little plan, Whitepaw began zipping around Shattergaze. She could feel her eyes following her. Sudenly, she lunged, managing to snap a part of her side again. But it wasn't like she wanetd. Shattergaze could now attack Whitepaw who was relatively vulnerable.

Her kick had connected well, and the hard impact left Whitepaw trying to catch her breath for awhile. Then she shook it off and began to plan her next attack. Now what will she do?
Shattergaze watched as Whitepaw sprinted around her, trying to confuse Shattergaze with many different possible angles of attacks. Better...but unfortunately that won't work very well on me. Shattergaze had seen variations of this attack before, but perhaps Whitepaw would do something different. Shattergaze's eyes snapped to Whitepaw as the apprentice suddenly lunged for her side. But the apprentice's attack didn't have the effect that she intended: now her entire side was open for attack and she could do nothing about it.
Whitepaw whole side was left open, and Shattergaze struck out with her paw and swept out with her claws, digging deep into the apprentice. The blow drew blood, and with the impact again Whitepaw was knocked roughly aside. "Hopefully that will teach you not to leave yourself so vulnerable. SoulClan cats could have killed you in an instant. Again!"

Whitepaw scowled. Shattergaze knew her every move. Or just defended every move she made. Whitepaw would really have to try. This was reality and she could not win a battle every time.
Getting to her paws, she ignored the pain. If she was to train, she would have to stick to what she'd learned. And she'd learned right away that pain is nothing and will just take charge in your head. Without waiting to think of a plan, she lunged blindly, her claws outstretched.
Of course, Shattergaze would probably be able to fight back easily and would've seen it coming. But Whitepaw didn't care. She would manage this attack well. Ranking her claws down Shattergaze's flank, she landed on her paws, panting.

Shattergaze watched as Whitepaw regrouped. She's gotting to be feeling injured now. But it looks like she is ignoring the pain...excellent. That's very good progress. But it looks as if she is getting a little frustrated...
Suddenly Whitepaw lunged out at Shattergaze, with no warning. Shattergaze raised a brow at this, but as she feinted out of the way, Whitepaw connected with her flank and the apprentice's claws dug into her. That attack may not have been complex, but it was effective. But Shattergaze recovered quickly.
"That was an interesting choice of attack...I wasn't expected a blind lunge like that. You executed it well, Whitepaw. But unfortunately, you needed to follow up with something a little bit more like this." As soon as her words were spoken, Shattergaze launched into an identical move, and dashed forward, slashing into Whitepaw's flank. Using her energy, she spun to the side and as she passed kicked out with her back paws into Whitepaw's stomach, knocking her down. "Try something to that effect, and it should work better. Its hard to see those sort of things coming."

Starlingpelt padded through the moggy territory. She herd screeches and words being past between cats. She crept closer and came to the fern clearing. "Hmmmm.."Starlingpelt murmured as she spotted Whitepaw. She didn't trust her loyalty one bit. She didn't deserve to have Shattergaze as a mentor. If she truley belonged here, she'd kill all her former clanmates in a heartbeat and no hesitation. Starlingpelt was disgusted by the look of hopefulness on her face. Shattergaze was sturn and vicious, while Whitepaw thought it was fun. Fun? She didn't even know what that was. Maybe she just needs to be pushed. Starlingpelt broke through the clearing and Whitepaw flicked her ear nevously.

Whitepaw nodded. Even though her attacks were good, there was always cats better then her, and she'd have to take the fighting to the next next level. Whitepaw crouched to the ground, her eyes narrowed. A blind attack would be no good. Shattergaze would already know that she might sue the same attack with a little pzazz.
Just as Whitepaw was about to leap, Starlingpelt sprinted in front of her. Whitepaw had been in mid-jump, so when Darkstar's mate interrupted, she fell back down, landing clumsily (but safley) on four paws. Anger flashed through her eyes as she regained her balance and surprise. "What are you doing here?" She growled, even though it'd probably be disrespectful. But who cared how she acted? She was a part of DeathClan, because of her blood and her loyalty to the Clan.
Why would Starlingpelt ever so suddenly, with no warning jump out and interrupt their session? Whitepaw was sure she'd have a good move ready but Starlingpelt had to come. Wasn't she a queen anyways?

Darkstar was sniffing after his mate. Where is she going? He followed her lovely scent to the Fern Clearing. Listening, he hears Whitepaw and Shattergaze training. Good. Then he hears a voice of alarm. Quickly, he rushes after it, only to discover that nothing was apparently long. He quickly changes his dash to a pounce, to make it look like he was catching prey. However, he knew from the look on their faces that they weren't buying his display. He licked his left paw pads coolly, then faced Starlingpelt. "What are you doing here? You should be in the camp, preferably the Queen's Den."

Shattergaze narrowed her icy eyes as Starlingpelt jumped in front of Whitepaw, interrupting their training. What is this Queen doing in the apprentice training area? She shouldn't be here, and she should not be meddling in my training session. Whitepaw snapped at the queen, but at that moment Shattergaze didn't care. The queen had messed with their battle lesson first, making Shattergaze's eyes flash angrily for a moment. But Shattergaze watched as her leader came up and addressed his mate, telling her she should be in camp. Shattergaze turned to the queen and nodded. "Yes, Starlingpelt. You should be in the camp where you will be protected. And besides, I have work to do, training this apprentice to be a real DeathClan warrior." Her eyes narrowed again. "Training generally works best when it is not interrupted."
Shattergaze looked to Whitepaw, and flicked her tail, signaling the apprentice to come over. "Let's move over here Whitepaw, while Darkstar and Starlingpelt talk." The pair moved a few pawsteps away, close enough to hear but far enough so their wouldn't be interference. "Now continue from where we left off, Whitepaw."

Starlingpelt turned to Darkstar." I'm not that far along you know," she growled at the tom. I guess its just a tom anticipating the arrival of his kits, she thought. She looked back at Shattergaze. "Sorry to interrupt your training. My mind has flipped over Whitepaw's loyalty lately, and it just didn't seem like she really wants this. What am I saying? I can't critisize for her actions, ofcourse, there's alot of things I shouldn't do or say." Starlingpelt went on, turning back to Darkstar. "Fine, I will go back to camp and pretend this never happend. I hope your happy. If I here you say to Shattergaze, 'Sorry, she was being moody,' I'll claw your ear off!" Starilngpelt grumbled as she pushed her way out of the clearing.

Whitepaw's eyes narrowed. She nodded and followed Shattergaze a few feet away. "Okay." She mewed. Suddenly, Whitepaw whipped her head around and growled loudly. "My loyalty to the Clan is no concern of yours, Starlingpelt." She snarled. "I am truly loyal to this Clan only." With that, she turned back to Shattergaze and focused on training. Mostly.
Darkstar is gonna be pissed at me for sure, for snarling at Starlingpelt like that, but she deserved it. Whitepaw thought as she swiped a paw at Shattergaze's neck, soon whipping away and attacking her side.

How long could Starlingpelt hide it? The fact is, that Starlingpelt had always loved the quirky little apprentice. She had felt the need to be her serigant mother. Whitepaw just hated her. Not that love was shone much in DeathClan, but Starlingpelt found it in her heart for young cats. She trusted her loyalty. For the fact that Starlingpelt was being moody, made the fact worse and gave her a sigh. She couldn't always be cold hearted. She wanted to be, ofcource it was good to be in the clan. Grrr, she thought. One day, she knew affection would slip out. Either with Whitepaw, or her wonderful, grusome mate.

Of course, Whitepaw had a real mother. But she was long dead. And her father....well, StarClan knew what happened to him. As well as all her sibilings dead, Whitepaw was alone. And passion for another cat was usually shown. Well-besides Darkstar and Starlingpelt.
So, Whitepaw was basically alone. All her old friends were in SoulClan, but she had made a vow to stay loyal to DeathClan. And with all her family gone, she was the only real survivor. No one had ever shown any affection to her, or any other DeathClan cat for that matter (Once again, besides the leader and his mate) so she was usually mad and not willing to follow the rules.

He grumbled something about crazy she-cats as Starlingpelt walked away. (lol) He tilted his head at Whitepaw when she snapped, but instead of defending his mate, he said, "Good, Whitepaw. You quickly defended yourself. That means one of two things. A) She was right, or B) She was wrong and you felt insulted. I am hoping it was the later. Now get battle training!" He dips his head towards Shattergaze, then follows after Starlingpelt.
