Spottedsun walked briskly out of camp. Things had been different since all the cats, -excluding Duststorm,- left for the journey. She tried to not let it get to her. But, she still wondered how they were doing, and if they were safe. She wondered if they were tired or hungry, but shook her head, knowing that they were stronger than they appeared, especially under StarClan's trust. She looked around her, hoping to see a the familiar faces of another patrol, but all was quiet. She sighed, and headed for the trees. Remembering that hunting was her task, thoughts and memories of hunting with Hazelstrike rushed into her head. This would be easy, like any other patrol. She padded on, staring up into the trees, hoping to spy a juicey bird to bring back for Silverleaf, Tangletail, and Whisperwind. She smiled at the thought of the queens. They were so lucky to have wonderful mates and beautiful kits. A spark of jealousy lit at the back of her mind, but she quickly blew it out. They were her friends, and didn't deserve any kind of angry thoughts from other friends. Glancing at the ground, her heart fluttered. Though it was cloudy, the grass and bushes were finally growing, and the flowers were just peaking out of the ground. New-leaf was very close, and prey would flourish. Prey! She had nearly forgotten that that was why she was out of camp. She stretched quickly, glad to be out of camp and away from the hustle and bustle of everyone. A sparrow twittered from above, and she gazed up to see its brown and white body hopping around on a branch. Even though the tree was big, Spottedsun made no hesitation to climb up it. She approached the large, rough roots, and unsheathed her long claws. Picking her way up carefully, she held on tightly to the bark, scrabbling here and there. Safely stopping on a lower branch, she glanced up to see how far it would be to reach the little bird. She inhaled and jumped up into another branch, now closer to the bird. Two more went by smoothly with almost no trouble, and she landed on the last branch. Readying her haunches, she leaped up into the air, and grabbed onto the egde of the last branch. She heaved herself up quickly, trying to gain balance on the narrow branch. The bird looked around, but seemed to not notice here. Phew! She was down-wind. She had forgotten about making sure of that. Creeping forward, gaining little distance between her and the bird, she stepped silently and leaped, landing on the bird, and silencing it with a bite to its tiny neck.
