Shattergaze padded through the woods, her icy blue eyes staring straight ahead. Behind her was Truthfur, the newest addition to their Clan. Although Shattergaze had been slightly optimistic about the cat at first, Truthfur had gotten on her nerves much too quickly. Annoying she-cat...she should have dropped the subject and left me alone. She's gotten in over her head.
But in a rare stroke of patience, Shattergaze had given Truthfur one more chance to prove her worth in the Deputy's eyes. And so here they were, hunting in the forest. But Shattergaze's patience was dangerously thin, as always. This better go well because this is the last chance she's going to get.

Truthfur suddenly quickened her pace., her long sliver tail swaying. Shattergaze had actually allowed, Truthfur to hunt with her. An honor? Or a death trap?
Truthfur's eyes narrowed. If This she cat was any more evil they would make her, her own clan. Truthfur huffed in air and let it out with a sigh. 'What are we hunting?" Truthfur asked lightly, not wanting to upset the cat. "Im so very sorry about earlier, i didn't mean to be as nasty as i was. I'm just a soft hearted cat." Truthfur scented the air. Prey, mice and rats, along with the rot of fish seemed to be all she could smell. It was an unbearably tasty smell.

Shattergaze took a quick glance back at Truthfur. "We're hunting whatever we find." Her tone was neutral. The padded deeper into the wood, and as Truthfur apologized for their...disagreement earlier in the day, Shattergaze thought about what she said. "It's good to hear you are sorry. If you weren't new, I wouldn't have let the things you said go. But the reason we are here right now is that I am giving you one more chance, which is more than I give most cats. So as long as you don't do that to me again, we should be fine from here on out." Shattergaze kept walking, and her voice had been hard, but not cruel.
As Truthfur said she was a soft-hearted cat, Shattergaze narrowed her eyes. "If you are softhearted, why are you in DeathClan? You realize we cannot make exceptions for...cats like that." She made a face. "If you wish to be loyal to your Clan, you will have to obey orders and kill ruthlessly."

"I'm softhearted for kits. Thank you for the second chance. How may i prove im worthy?" Truthfur meowed lightly. She smiled as kept on walking, she stepped on a stick, it crunched loudly. Truthfur suddenly felt a hollow hole in her stomach. Guilt? Sorrow? Truthfur had never felt these things before.
"I am worthy to be in Deathclan." She meowed in between a gasp. She was not even hungry, just glad to finally have a so called 'friend.'

Shattergaze shook her head. There were too many cats with a soft heart for kits. Shattergaze had a softer side for kits also, but only DeathClan kits. SoulClan kits were nothing to her, deserved to die with the rest of the SoulCats. It was just putting them out of their misery.
As Truthfur asked what she could do to prove she was worthy, Shattergaze thought for a moment. There were so many options...it was always an interesting situation. From killing your own kits to killing a best friend, DeathClan had done it all. But Truthfur didn't have anything like that to kill... "When we attack SoulClan, I want you to capture or kill a SoulClan kit. We must take Tanglekit alive, but the others are expendable. Depending on how the kits act, any kits you capture may need to be killed back at camp." Shattergaze watched for Truthfur's reaction. "It's the only way to show that you will put your Clan first over your," a frown flashed across her face for a moment, "soft feelings. If you do that, your loyalty should be secure."

Truthfur's jaw dropped. She stopped walking and her eyes buldged. She had expected this. The only way to win Shattergazes approve was to act mature. Still frozen her mouth moved quickly. "So?" She breathed lighty trying not to go crazy. "I will capture a kit and bring it back." Truthfur didn't know if she was supposed to bow or dib her head so she just stared at Shattergaze.
Hell, she thought. Im Freaken doomed for life unless i kill a kit.
Truthfur thawed out and came up beside Shattergaze. "I know why you chose a kit," Her eyes softened. "Its because i have no family, to kill." Truthfur kept her head down.

Shattergaze studied the cat's reaction. She had paused, an indication that she didn't really want to do it. But she had agreed to it, and in the end had no choice. I hope when the time comes she doesn't back down. Because I won't give her another chance.
Shattergaze tilted her head. "Well, yes, I did choose a kit because you don't have family to kill. But I also chose it because it is something you don't want to do, a feeling that disagrees with what DeathClan stands for. Death is equal in all eyes, and kits should be no exception. It is necessary that every cat in DeathClan be able to kill without pausing, without thinking, without question. If you kill a kit, you should overcome these feelings and prove yourself a loyal DeathClan cat. The death of kits has proven loyalty for cats many times," she said, thinking back to when Tanglestar had killed all but one of her kits to prove her loyalty to the Clan.
