Victims Of Forbidden Love
Fangpaw padded along the lakeside, holding his head and tail high in the air. He had just been told by Bramblestar, leader of Thunderclan, that he had aced his assessment and he would be a warrior tomorrow. His silver tabby fur glistened and his blue eyes sparkled. He saw movement in the bushes ahead. A ginger head popped out of the brambles and was tracking a squirrel in front of her. He pinpointed the squirrel’s position and pounced on it. “HEY!”
The ginger apprentice was fluffed up to about twice her size. “That was MY squirrel!!” she growled. Fangpaw flicked his ear, narrowing his eyes. “ Well, miss ‘I’m so smart’ more like ‘Not that smart’! You would have caught Thunderclan prey!” Fangpaw rasped. She kept her green glare on him. “I’M NOT ON THUNDERCLAN TERRITORY!” she yowled, stepping forward. Fangpaw suppressed a meow of laughter. “You are now.” The she-cat sighed and ducked back into the bushes. “You can keep that squirrel THIS time. But don’t do it again.” She growled and shuffled her paws.
Fangpaw picked up the prey and turned to leave. “Wait, what’s your name?” the cat called. “Fangpaw.” He meowed, padding away. “Nightpaw…” she mewed.
She sat there, playing the meeting back in her head. Her cheeks blushed and she knew right away that she had gotten herself into some trouble. She loved him…

Many, many moons had passed and Fangpaw was now a handsome young warrior. He was well respected throughout the clan. His parents, Lionblaze and Icestorm were proud of him, along with his mentor, Thunderclan deputy Berrynose. Fangscar sat on the top of the Warrior’s den. His friend, Briarcloud, was sharing a hawk with him. She had a horrible crush on him. This made him uncomfortable. “Briarcloud, this just isn’t working out. I-I can’t be your mate.” Fangscar meowed.
He soon learned that he’d made the biggest mistake of his life. Briarcloud pushed the hawk away, her green eyes blazing. “ Why? What’s wrong with me?” Fangscar tried reassuring her but it was just too late. “ You know what, no. Don’t even try. I know your secret. So be careful what you say!” She hissed, jumping down and sitting next to Foxcatcher. He was her biggest fan.
Fangscar had a lump in his throat. How could she know about him and Nightflame? He had to talk with her at the gathering that night. Bramblestar called the cats for the gathering and he was one of them. To his horror, so was Briarcloud. They sped through the forest. Fangscar was at the back of the group. Windclan and Riverclan were already mingling so at least they weren’t last this time.
Fangscar was crossing the log when he lost his footing and was dangling dangerously over the water, clinging on for dear life. A cats jaw clamped over his scruff, dragging him back on the log. He quickly jumped to the island and turned to see Nightflame blinking at him. “Thanks, Nightflame.” He meowed, panting. He shook his pelt nervously. “ I have something to tell you.” They said at the same time.
“ You first.” Nightflame meowed nudging him. His eyes were narrowed to hide the concern. “Briarcloud knows. We have to be more careful. And now she hates me because I told her I couldn’t be her mate.” He finished. She shuffled her paws. “ Fangscar, this is not good. I-I’m going to have kits.” She meowed, looking at him, eyes swimming with emotion. A horrible dread filled his body. Briarcloud was eyeing him through narrowed eyes and a malicious smile. They sat in silence for the rest of the night. Little did they know it would get much worse …

Fangscar ran towards the Shadowclan scent in his territory. He broke into a clearing and Nightflame quickly hid behind him and kept shuddering. She was scratched up and bleeding. He suddenly realized her kits were on the way. He shielded her and five cats slunk out into the clearing. He only recognized Russetstar and her deputy, Toadfoot. Cats lunged at him and he flung them off. He threw cats left and right until only Russetstar and Toadfoot were left.
“What are you doing?” he hissed, bleeding from several scratches. “That traitor is having Thunderclan kits!” Russetstar hissed back. “Let me ask you this, why are you trying to kill her!?” Fangscar snarled. “To teach the rest of Shadowclan a lesson.” Toadfoot meowed.
By now, Nightflame was gasping, her eyes filled with pain. In the distance there was a battle yowl and Russetstar and her deputy skidded away. The patrol was of Berrynose, Toadbreeze, and Briarcloud. Toadbreeze immediately ran to Nightflame and Berrynose snorted in disapproval. “Berrynose! Get Jayfeather!” Toadbreeze said.
Berrynose quickly sped away. Fangscar looked at Briarcloud. She was expecting Foxcatcher’s kits and had no right to be in the patrol. “Why?” Fangscar growled. Briarcloud stuck her nose in the air and huffed. The wait seemed like forever and Nightflame was loosing a lot of blood. Things only got worse.
“Move!” a growl sounded behind him. Fangscar stepped aside as Jayfeather ran over to Toabreeze. Bramblestar followed him into the clearing. He looked directly and Fangscar, his amber eyes burning his fur. “Thunderclan kits, eh?” his voice rumbled. Fangscar bowed his head. “They’re mine.” He mewed quietly. HE expected Bramblestar to shred his pelt, but for now there was only brisk sympathy.
A yowl came out of Nightflame’s parted jaws. Shuddered and a brown tabby tom kit fell on the ground. Jayfeather quickly passed it to his apprentice. He put his paw on her flank. Another contraction shook her body and another kit came out. This time, ginger. Nightflame was drained and was struggling and finally a small white kit lay still on the ground. Jayfeather inspected. “Born dead.” He muttered.
He soon patched Nightflame up, put a mouse by her and left with the kits. He lay beside her, alone, their kits gone. They lay just two exiled cats. He felt so alone. Nightflame died that night, leaving Fangscar broken up. He survived longer but lost his mind. His two kits, Firewhisker and Scarstripe, attacked him, but he didn’t attack back. He let them kill him. Nightflame and Fangscar still remain lost in Starclan, searching for each other. May this be a valuable lesson…
