Just a witch story that I'm writing for my own personal enjoyment, so, enjoy. XD
Firelight:
Chapter 1
Today was just another normal day.
At least, it had started out that way. I'd woken up the same way; slamming my alarm clock down on the floor when it beeped to wake me up. I'd walked out to the bus stop like I'd done a thousand times this year, sat down next to my two best friends, Miranda and Kristy, wanting school to be over already. We had talked for a little while, and I'd stared out the window, watching the forest pass by. And that's when I first saw him.
I couldn't see much at the fast speed we were going, but I could see his eyes. They were a glistening black, his hair the same color, spiked. I hadn't really given much thought to it, though, after all, it was just some stranger on the side of the road. But I couldn't really forget it, either. And that had bugged me. Why would one random stranger stay in my mind so much? I mean, sure his eyes were a creepy black, but half of the people I know look like they have black eyes when they're really a dark brown. By lunch, though, I had almost completely forgotten about him.
"Hey, Miranda, Kristy," I said, sitting across from them. I came into lunch late, as I normally did.
"Hey Vandetta," Kristy nodded to me, putting her long blonde hair into a ponytail. "Do I look alright?" She asked. Kristy was always fretting about her looks- mainly her hair. Miranda was her complete opposite, while I was caught somewhere in the middle. I did care how I looked, just not as much as Kristy. And I didn't dress the same, either. She would normally wear flats, a pair of skinny jeans, some dressy long-sleeved shirt, and always kept her hair up, while I wore to-the-knee black converse, jeans, a black t-shirt, black jacket, and let my black hair flow down to the middle of my back. Miranda would wear whatever she grabbed that morning, which was normally a plain long-sleeve shirt, some jeans, sneakers, and kept her brown hair down, like me.
"You look fine," Miranda said, annoyed. Kristy and Miranda were always getting at each other because of their differences. I wondered how it was possible for them to still be best friends.
"Hey, did you hear?" Kristy asked, changing the subject. "We're going outside today. Isn't that great?" Did I forget to mention she was always overly-happy about every little insignificant thing? Well, she is.
"Oh joy," I mumbled sarcastically, taking a bite of my pizza. It tasted like crap, just like all of the other school lunches here.
"You know, Vandetta," Miranda whispered into my ear. "You could at least pretend that you care, that way Ms. Peppy here won't go on and on about how great it is, like she always does." I smiled at Miranda.
For the next ten minutes we talked, bored out of our minds, until finally we could go outside; it had just began to snow. We walked onto the grassy field, still visible until the light layer of snow. I looked around, searching for something to do. Unlike most high schools, ours didn't have any sports, so there were no football fields, no soccer nets, absolutely nothing. There wasn't even a place to play kickball.
"I'm so bored," I complained to Kristy and Miranda as we walked around, searching for something to do.
"Why don't we go into the forest?" Miranda suggested. "I bet you there's something fun to do in there."
"You know that the forest is off-limits. If we're caught in there, we'll get into major trouble." Kristy pointed out. I thought about it for a moment. So what if we were caught? The worst thing that could happen would be that the teachers found out and told us not to do it again. No big deal.
"I think we should go," I agreed, Miranda nodding approvingly at my decision.
"Well then, come on," Miranda said, already walking toward the forest. I followed right behind her, while Kristy deliberated for a moment, and then, with a sigh, started following us. After a couple of quick minutes we were in the forest, surrounded by trees, bushes, and grass.
I drifted away from Kristy and Miranda, smiling at the beauty of the forest. It was so quiet, so peaceful. And so very, very silent. I sat down in front of a small pond, looking down at my reflection in it. My eyes were a light blue, and my hair was a deep black. I sighed in frustration at my hair, it never seemed to cooperate with me. I began to try to fix it, patting it down with my hands, unaware of the silent footsteps behind me. It wasn't until I looked back into the pond that I saw his spiked hair and black eyes, and by that time it was too late. He hissed quietly, his voice barely above a whisper:
"The witch of fire.
Who still has yet to see her potential.
And who still has to be taught of her power.
Will come back to life from her cinder.
And restore peace to the world."
Icy calmness swept through me at these words, and my vision began to get fuzzy. I turned around, looking up at this man, who now looked like a black blob. And in that same instant I blacked out.
