Joypaw walked into the nusury, fresh-kill in her mouth. "Hello, Flamekit," she mewed at the ginger she-kit. "Want to hear a story?" Joypaw quickly began thinking of the stories she knew and the stories of her own. Or a story that dated back to the ancient Clans. Or- the possibilities seemed endless, and she could only imagine what the elders had to share. Flamekit was an adventureous little kit, and probably would want to hear a story of a battle. Then I'll tell her about the DC battle where Stormheart died, Joypaw decided quickly. Let's hope she likes it.

Whisperstar strayed near the nursery. She couldn't help thinking, with a pang of longing, how much she wanted to have kits of her own. She sighed. It wasn't as if she could even ask her mate...she didn't have one! For the first time in her life, Whisperstar felt alone.
Just then, she heard Joypaw's voice. Stories. She hadn't heard one in a while, she would enjoy this. It would take her mind off things. Whisperstar pushed her way into the nursery and smiled in greeting to Joypaw and Flamekit. "Mind if I join you?" she purred.

Silverleaf sat in the nursery near where Whisperstar was, a group of kits climbing on her and playing, "Can the kits and I listen too?" Silverleaf slowly walked over, her matted fur looking dull and worn out. She had been this way since she was told Flamestar had died when she wasn't in camp for a while.
All the kits looked up at Silverleaf, looking worried. They missed the happy and energetic Silver, they didn't care much for the boring and lifeless cat, it couldn't be Silverleaf. She sat next to Whisperstar and sighed sadly.

Joypaw smiled at Whisperstar and Silverleaf. Silverleaf seemed still shocked and grief-stricken about Flamestar, so she put away the story of Stormheart. Maybe later, she told herself. She purred back at Whisperstar, "Of course! What do you want to hear? I know a couple of ancient myths, How the Moonstone was discovered, and stories of my own." She knew Whisperstar would need a good story to lighten her up, with all the bad happenings going on lately. Her leader looked a little distracted, so Joypaw began scanning her stories again. What will do? Hm... Maybe one of the Ancient Clan stories.

Shimmerkit lifts her little gray head and looks at Joypaw. She yawns and then sits up. With sleepy eyes she says, "What cha guys doing?" Her head starts to bob as she tries to stay awake. But when she sees Whisperstar, she quickly jumps to attention. "Hello Oh Mighty Whisperstar!" she says with a bow, "How are you feeling today?" Then she gets a big grin on her face, just to let Whisperstar know she wasn't making fun of her. Her fluffy gray tail twitches back and forth as she waits for Whisperstar's answer.

Spottedsun looked up drowsily; she'd been napping. Nodding to her three friends, Silverleaf, Whisperstar, and Joypaw, and saying hello, she smiled. "What a wonderful idea!" She glanced down to see Shimmerkit staring at Whisperstar with wide eyes, and Flamekit glancing at Joypaw with happiness glinting in her blue/green eyes. "Now, now, Shimmerkit, please don't stare at cats. It's rude." Spottedsun lay her head back in her paws, excited to hear a story that could pass the time. She wondered what Joypaw would tell. This apprentice was full of surprises!

Flamekit - Small But Mighty Flamekit gave a small squeal of excitement and ran around all the she-cats, letting out small yelps of excitement and suspense. A story! Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! She had been waiting all of her little kitten life for this! - Well, okay that was a lie. Not really. But she had been waiting a rather long time, okay maybe just a couple days, for one of the warriors or an apprentice to have just a few moments to tell a couple stories of the old SoulClan or something.
Maybe even something about before Whisperstar was leader! And Whisperstar was rather old, to the small ginger she-kit she was anyways. Her eyes then turned to Whisperstar, hearing the last of Shimmerkit's words. She hadn't noticed the calico she-cat there. Her eyes widened to great, big orbs and her voice turned soft as she stopped, trying to act mature enough. "Hello, Whisperstar." She murmured out of respect, "Its a nice day out, isn't it?"
Inside she really didn't care what anyone else thought, she just wanted to hear a good story. She looked back from Whisperstar, then to Joypaw and jumped around them one more time before settling down beside her mother, Spottedsun. She turned her great, big blue/green eyes to Joypaw and tried to wait patiently for the she-cat to begin. She seemed to be taking forever though and inside Flamekit was bubbling with excitement, hoping to show them that she was mature enough to be an apprentice. She still had about four moons, but hey. Who said she couldn't have hopes and dreams. Suddenly she meowed, "Mama. Where's Tanglekit?" She looked around the nest, then spotted her little sister on the other side of Spottedsun, curled up in a small calico-ball. Flamekit padded over to her little sister and poked her hard on the back once. She still didn't stir, though the small dark ginger she-cat could hear her sister mumbling something to herself about sleep or something.
Flamekit shrugged. Her lost. More stories and room for Shimmerkit and herself after all! This was a rather win-win situation in Flamekit's case! She grinned sheepishly at Spottedsun before padding back over to the spotted queen, silver she-cat, Silverleaf, Joypaw, and Whisperstar.
Before Joypaw began, she glanced at Silverleaf. She didn't look too well. "Wait a minute." She meowed, "Silverleaf. Do you want me to get you some fresh-kill before we begin?" she asked politely. Shimmerkit urns her head to look at her mom. "Sorry Mommy," then she turns back to Whisperstar, "Sorry Whisperstar." She sits there sulking for a second and then her face brightens. "So Whisperstar the Great, will you please answer my humble question?" She starts to wiggle excitedly. Desperately, she tries to control herself. However, she is unsuccessful, and suddenly pounced on Flamekit's little tail.

Spottedsun sits there, trying to control her grinning that was so close to turning into laughter. Atleast Shimmerkit and Flamekit were happy. Poor Tanglekit would have to miss this story telling session, but Spottedsun was sure that the kit's siblings would tell her when she woke up. Flamekit had more energy than usual but that was fine. Shimmerkit couldn't get over Whisperstar's presence. "I bet she thinks of you as a god," she murmered to her friend, chuckling. Spottedsun's eyes darted to her friend, Silverleaf, who looked dull and lifeless, though her chest rose and fell with every breath. "Silverleaf? Are you feeling well, dear?" (XD)

Joypaw smiled and greeted her friend. She giggled at Shimmerkit and Spottedsun's comment."Listen to your mother, Shimmerkit," she said happily. She loved listening to stories when she was a kit. She hoped they liked the story she'd chosen: It was a story dating back to the founding leaders Shadow, Wind, Thunder, and River.
"This is the story of how the Moonstone was discovered. Many, many seasons ago, when the founding leaders Windstar, Shadowstar, Thunderstar, and Riverstar ruled. In WindClan, there was once a warrior named Mothflight. Mothflight was brave and intelligent, but she was forgetful and was distracted easily. When she went on hunting patrols, she brought back berries instead of prey. When asked what the berries were for, she said she didn't know but she thought they were useful. More then once, the deputy Gorsefur caught Mothflight nosing at plants in other territories. He knew if she was caught, WindClan would pay the price.
One day on patrol, Windstar saw Mothflight pad absent-mindedly across the Thunderpath, following a feather. A monster roared not far away. "Watch out!" Windstar yowled, but her voice was drowned out. Gorsefur raced across the Thunderpath, saving himself and Mothflight just in time. "Wait here," Windstar told the rest of the partol. She raced across, furious. Gorsefur was the father of her kits as well as her deputy.
"What were you thinking?! You both could have been killed!" Mothflight hung her head in shame. "Sorry, Windstar," she mewed. "I felt it was calling me, over there." She pointed her tail far away, beyond any Clan's territory. "Well, go on then," Windstar spat. "Follow your feathers, stuff your head in the clouds, eat nothing but berries as far as I care. Go now." Windstar's eyes blazed cold fire.
Saddened, Mothflight left her home, and continued to follow the feather. She walked on for what felt like moons, and finally reached a cave, now Mothermouth. She was a little scared, but was careful and continued. When she reached the end, she saw the huge stone, now the Moonstone, curled up by it, and slept. She woke to a dream where she saw StarClan.
"Welcome, Mothflight. You have found the Moonstone, and we welcome you as WindClan's new medicine cat. Your openness to our signs, and your interest in the herbs made you perfect for the job."
Mothflight felt joyful, but one thing got in the way. "I can't! I've been exiled." She hung her head in shame. "Don't worry. We'll take care of that." The starry cat flicked its tail toward Windstar. "You are dreaming, Windstar," the spirit whispered. "Welcome your new medicine cat." Windstar's fur began to lie flat, and she nodded at Mothflight before disappearing.
"Now, Mothflight, you must find three more cats to be medicine cats of their Clans." The spirit named the cats, then disappeared.
Mothflight woke, feeling surges of joy. She curled up beside the stone. Tonight, she would sleep beside the Moonstone. Tomorrow, she would return to WindClan as their medicine cat."

Flamekit - Small But Mighty
"Woah." Flamekit meowed. She had been listening to Joypaw's every word of the story, word for word, not even caring who was listening or whatever. "Mothflight sure had been very brave, hadn't she?" she meowed, her eyes till widen with shock.
She had never really thought about what being a warrior was like. It had probably been hard for Mothflight, to leave her Clan and especially because she had followed her dreams, dreams that StarClan intended for her to follow. Flamekit was silent, thinking and pondering. What if she wasn't meant to be a warrior? What if her life and her secret dream was to be a medicine cat or...or something else, like just...a queen. What if? What if StarClan didn't intend for her to become a warrior, that they had set down a totally different plan, like they had with the ancient Mothflight. If that was so...she didn't know what she would do.
Flamekit mumbled something. StarClan seemed to be very random when they wanted to be, from what cats had said. Killing off cats, claiming it was their time. She snorted. Yeah right. "Their time, my butt!" she said aloud, though she meant to just be a thought.
She quieted down, hoping no one had noticed her random little outburst. Her fur felt hot and she prayed that no one had heard and was staring at her. She blinked at the ground. But really. What if she was meant to be a medicine cat, not a warrior and then deputy, then leader? What if, she had kits and that meant someone else got the place of deputy and by the time the kits were grown, it was too late for her? What if? What if? What if...?
Flamekit inwardly started to panic, her mind spinning. She liked the story, but it had taken her a whole new road of her believe in StarClan. What was she to do if she was meant to be someone, or something, else besides the best warrior she could be? Like Jayfeather of ThunderClan! Sure he had been blind, but still! He could still be a warrior, using his other senses as Brightheart of ThunderClan had.
She let out a small squeak, so low that no other cat in the nursery heard. StarClan weren't the oh-so-brave cats she had thought they were! She looked from Whisperstar, to Silverleaf, to Joypaw, to Spottedsun, to her sisters, and then back to the ground. What was she to do?

Goldenshard had heard Joypaw's story, and once it was over she came into the den, grinning hugely. "Great story, Joypaw! A classic." She nodded to the apprentice, and smiled at Whisperstar, her old mentor Spottedsun, and to Silverleaf. "Hey!" She looked at the kits, eyes wide. "Wow Spottedsun...they've gotten so big! They look great." She padded over and squeezed herself in between Shimmerkit and Flamekit. "Hey you two. Like that story? It's pretty incredible." Then she laughed. "Although personally, I know I wouldn't have been able to follow that feather. I'd care way to much about being a warrior!"
She looked over at Flamekit, who's face was scrunched up in a very serious, non-kit fashion. "What's up Flamekit? Worried a feather will come by and lead you into the middle of a Thunderpath?" She grinned. "Don't worry. StarClan has a plan for every cat, and even though that may seem scary or controlling eve, in the end, it always works out for the best. Look at me!" She smiled. "I worked hard ever since I was a kit, and I'm a warrior now. But I never could have done it without StarClan!"

Spottedsun dipped her head to Joypaw in thanks for the story, and then her glaze flickered to Goldenshard. "Greetings, Goldenshard," she mewed, but the new warrior hadn't seemed to hear her. She then noticed the white and ginger/orange she-cat talking to Flamekit, who seemed to have no response to Goldenshard's words. What is she thinking about..? Spottedsun wondered. She leaned down to lick a piece of moss out of her kit's fur. "What's the matter, sweety?" she murmered in the kit's ear. Everyone else's eyes were on the flame colored kit, and she glanced around, trying to decipher what everyone else was thinking. She'd enjoyed the story, because she'd never heard it, but she was worried that it might have been a better story for when the kits were a bit older. They can't be worrying about their destinies right now...can they? Spottedsun blinked a couple of times, wondering if she'd have to speak with them after everyone left. Thank goodness Tanglekit was asleep. That little she-kit seemed the most grumpy and unhappy kit of the whole litter! (No offense at all, Tangle. I only meant it as DC wise. XD ;]) She didn't want to test the kit's belief in StarClan at all...

Whisperstar laughed at Shimmerkit's words. "I am doing well, oh mighty Shimmerkit." She motioned for the young kit to quiet down, though, when Joypaw started her story. It was one she'd heard before, when she was a kit. I haven't heard that one in a while, she thought. Whisperstar glanced at Flamekit. The story seemed to have affected her more than the others... what's she thinking about? Whisperstar wondered. Suddenly, one of Flamekit's ear twisted while her eyes widened and she looked from Silverleaf to Whisperstar to Joypaw to Spottedsun and back, and Whisperstar gasped. Flamestar used to do the exact same thing! Whisperstar remembered her friend as if she were still alive. Whenever Flamestar figured something out, or something surprised her, her ear would always twist as her eyes widened. Whisperstar took a step back, and shook her head as if she could deny what she had seen. Weird, she thought, unnerved. Then she brushed it aside. It was just a coincidence, nothing more. But then Whisperstar remembered how Flamestar hadn't been present for her Nine Lives Ceremony. She was my best friend, why hadn't she been there? she wondered for the umpteenth time. Whisperstar looked back at the little Flamekit. Could it be...?----------------------------------------- Notes: Sorry about powerplaying Flame's ear twist, but I wanted her to start realizing the little similarities. And I so just set up the plot

Silverleaf smiled down at them and her fur now looked healthier, given she had been grooming while she was listening. Her eyes were still the same, but she seemed more lively, "Do you guys want to hear the story of when I tried to save Silvermoon when I was a kit? Or maybe all the times Whisper here used to sneak out with Slyclaw, Ghostshadow, and I. " She chuckled at the memory, even though she missed her former mentor.
"Silvermoon was the deputy and my mentor when I was your age. If you guys think our leader here is old, you haven't realized I was made a warrior when she was just being made an apprentice." Silverleaf gave a sly wink to the kits and looked over to the grown cats, and realized she was much older than all of them, despite her healthy coat color and lively personality. "So which story do you want to hear?"

"Hi, Goldenshard! And thanks." Joypaw smiled at her friend, and followed her gaze to Flamekit. "She's right," Joypaw meowed. "I'm working hard now, and this was just a break, but it'll all pay off when I recieve my warrior name. StarClan destines certain cats for great things, if they notice unusual of uncommon qualities in a cat. Mothflight was very brave, but her heart led her to becoming a medicine cat. Remember what the spirit said about her openess to StarClan's signs, and her interest in plants and herbs. She loved healing, and it was where her heart lay. Flamekit, I don't know your destiny, but put ambition into being the best warrior you can be when you become an apprentice. Now, enjoy your kithood and don't worry about your destiny. I'm sure StarClan will choose something for you that will work out in the end." Joypaw hoped Flamekit was listening, for no kit enjoyed a tedious lecture. Espicially not this kit, she thought, a glimmer of amusement in her eyes as she thought. "I think I'd like to hear how you tried to save Silvermoon." Joypaw smiled at Silverleaf. "What do you think?" she asked, addressing the other cats.

Spottedsun tried to tell Joypaw and Goldenshard in her gaze, Thank you, no one could've said it better. I'm glad you're seeing what I'm seeing. She rested her tail on the kit's back momentarily, before looking up at her silver furred friend.
"You're that old? Really? I'm not even close to believeing that!" Spottedsun chuckled, but her ears pricked at the sound of another story.
"That sounds like a good story! Let's hear it!" She grinned, eyes darting around to all the cats, but lastly to Flamekit to see if she was still uncomfortable and deep in thought. "What do you think, darlings?" she asked Shimmerkit and Flamekit.

Goldenshard met Spottedsun's eyes and understood what she was trying to say, and grinned. Don't worry Spottedsun, I gotcha coverd! She looked back over to Flamekit. Sometimes even kits worry about their destinies...I know I did. I always worked my hardest to make sure I would reach my goal of being the greatest warrior. I know that Flamekit will be able to achieve her goal too, whatever it is.
Her ear swiveled and she heard Silverleaf offer up a story. "Oh! I want to hear that one!" She playfully shoved Flamekit and Shimmerkit. "Hey you two, scooch over a bit!" She settled down in between the kits, ears pricked, waiting for the tale.

Silverleaf chuckled at Golden’s playfulness and settled down in front of them all, her tail swishing from side to side. “Well, when I was a kit, along with Whisperstar, Slyclaw, Ghostshadow, and more cats, I had a… close bond with Silvermoon. More than once, she would take Slyclaw and I out to the river on warm days, or exploring,” She paused to smile at the memories, before continuing.
“It was a very hot day in Greenleaf, so Silvermoon took Sly and I out to the river that separates us from what is now known as DeathClan. Silvermoon was always the first to dive in, considering she was half RiverClan. That day, she dived into the deepest part… and didn’t come up,” Silverleaf paused again, sighing from the remembrance. “I panicked and dived in without thinking. I dived down and got hold of her, but something was caught on her. After a while, it let go, whatever it was, and I barely managed to get her to the shore.”
“When I did, my right forepaw,” Silverleaf raised her forepaw that was covered with different faint scars in various places, “Was bleeding. I had twisted my paw, and the bone was sticking out. Wolfsong had a cow, because I wouldn’t hold still when she was putting it back in place.” Silverleaf laughed whole-heartedly, “Silvermoon then was named my mentor, and I have seemed to have terrible luck with this paw since then. I’ve broken or severely wounded it in battles or falling out of trees,” She said the tree part with an amused look.
“Since that day, nothing else has been found in that river. It must have been a strong creature, considering it managed to keep the deputy down.”

Spottedsun chuckled. "It's hard to imagine you like that, now that you're all serious and boring." She winked at Silverleaf and nodded to Goldenshard, smiling, and thanking her. Spottedsun glanced down at the kits. "Do you hear that? A big creature could still be in the river...you better not ever go near there without another cat with you." She smiled at the kits, not meaning to be strict, but for their own safety. She'd have to tell Tanglekit that later. "Thank you for the story, Silverleaf, do you know anymore?" she asked, grinning at her friend.
